DIY childhood memories

There's no denying we are all children at heart. Whether it comes in the form of a huge spoon of Nutella, envying the kids on a Dora the Explorer jumping castle or watching the morning weekend cartoons- Childhood never quite escapes us does it.

Recently I came across a unique DIY project that has allowed one young lady to revisit her childhood day after day in the form of mascot and costume making. I don't know if I have seen something so creative, fun and tasteful for a long time and I was inspired to find out more.

Miss Chloe Pomerenke prides herself in her collection of handmade fur suit mascots which she has been creating from home for almost two years. She states that when she was a child she used to dream of  ways to transform into an animal and making fur suits seemed to be one of the closest ways to reach this childhood dream. Miss Pomerenke makes it possible for herself and many others to revisit their fondest childhood 'dress up' memories through making and selling these playful costumes. She states that,  'It really does bring out the child in me'

She produces each of her beautiful costumes by scratch, carefully sculpting each foam block by hand and in total, the process can take her up to 2 weeks to produce a full costume. It's obvious these creations are a labor of love, especially when it comes to money. The price to make a single costume can range anywhere from $150 to $400, but Miss Pomerenke says that, 'the outcome is totally worth it.'

Chloe continues to create and improve upon her fur suits and even develops videos that reflect both the design of the suit and Chloe's bold and creative personality and passion. A number of her suits have also been given names such as 'bubbles' and sooner or later find happy homes with one of the many fur suit supporting fans.

Wouldnt it be great if organisations such as the RSPCA, Zoo's or even child hospitals like the Mater hospital in Brisbane would take on board an idea like this and ask fur suit makers to design and create a mascot for their organisation. These costumes bring such joy, creativity and childlike fantasy into the lives of many and would help promote involvement and engagement among the public.
If you want to purchase or enquirer about a fur suit please contact Chloe Pomerenke via her facebook page or comment through this blog and we can link her to you :) To find out more about the world of fur suits I encourage you to watch a few Youtube videos and discover some very dedicated fans and mascot creations.

1 minute Cake Stand

Hmm... so you want to display some cupcakes, sandwiches or biccies and you don't have a spare cake stand? Don't fret! All you will need is;

1 x large dinner bowl
1x soup cup
1x medium dinner plate
1x tea cup
1x tea cup saucer

All these items should be in your kitchen already. Basically, just turn the cups upside down on top of the plates like the picture and wallah! Simple and clever way to present food on a budget, for a cute centerpiece or just because you can :)

Budget Entertaining: Light the room

So I'm sure we have all had evenings when a friend or guest somehow invites them self for dinner..or out of the kindness of your heart you ask them to stay even though the tablecloth is filthy, the laundry is hanging on the chair and nothing is in its place.

Even 'better', relatives have announced their arrival in town and the house just has nothing going for it. Well, this has all happened to us at least once and money is tight these days, so we don't particularly want to go out and buy pretty things for a dinner- not to mention their is usually no time to run to the stores!

A few months ago, I was designing a layout for a church event and came across this affordable and rather clever idea. I hope you like it just as much as I do, I call it wine glass candle holder because...that's exactly what they are ;)

1# Place a tea light candle in a wine glass. Drop in some pebbles, dried flowers or even rock salt for a cool effect. Mix and match different sized and shaped glasses for a shabby chic feel.

2# Turn your wine glass upside down and place any sized candle on top- make sure it won't be knocked off. Try placing the glass on a coloured dish or place a pretty object underneath. Flowers work really well and so do wishing pebbles or beads.

3# For a slightly different feel (or to add colour) try placing a plastic cup on top of the wine glass. Make sure you only use battery candles underneath the plastic cups or else you could cut your evening rather short ;) Different coloured cups will act as a mood lighting for a room and create a rather special feel.

4#And for those of you who actually want to use your wine glasses for dinner and not for display, try a large jug or mason jar :)
